Cagliari is the main city in southern Sardinia. It can be easily reached by plane from Italy mainland and from abroad, via Milan or Rome or directly, e.g. from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, London, Madrid, Munich, and Paris. The direct international routes are mainly served by low-cost companies such as Ryanair and Easyjet. The city airport is Cagliari Elmas, only 10 minutes from the city center by public transport.
We recommend booking your flights as soon as possible since September in Sardinia is usually considered a medium-high season.
Cagliari Elmas facilities within the Terminal include a Tourist Information Point, a Post Office, Luggage Storage, an ATM, restaurants and bars, as well as plenty of shops.
The airport is situated only six kilometers to the northwest of Cagliari’s centre. There are several options to get from the airport to the city:
- Right at the airport, you can choose among 15 different car rental agencies, among them Hertz, Europcar and Sixt. The agencies are in a separate building right outside the Terminal building (the parking is free of charge at the conference venue).
- Two buses per hour connect the airport with the city centre of Cagliari. The ride takes about 10 minutes and will cost 4€.
- The train from the airport to Cagliari takes max. 10 minutes. Cagliari train station is located in Piazza Matteotti, in the city centre, about 20 minutes by public transportation from the conference site. The train station at the airport is about 5 minutes from the Arrival hall; follow the “Train” signs to the left. The ticket costs 1.30 euros and can be purchased at the automatic ticket machine on the platform. Train timetables can be found online at the site https://www.trenitalia.com. When you arrive at the airport, take a look at the train departure panel located in the arrival hall.
- A taxi stand with a 24-hour service is located right in front of the Terminal. It will cost about 20€ for taxi rides from the airport to the city center.
